Zesty Yuzu Lemon

(1 customer review)

TeaCha's Notes:
It was fun finding this zippy green rooibos. The Yuzu fruit creates a zesty sip. Served hot, it has a soft rich tart flavor. Served iced, it becomes delicate and refreshing like lemonade on a hot day. If water doesn't quench your thirst during the dog days of summer, this will. For a summer treat garnish it with a sprig of mint or a few frozen strawberries or blueberries.

This green rooibos (unoxidized) has zesty Yuzu fruit with lemon peel, lemongrass and lemon verbena. Green rooibos provides a smoother taste than the more common red rooibos (oxidized) that tends to leave a slight lingering tobacco note. The Yuzu fruit, originating from China, has a zippier tart taste than lemons and is more of a combination of lime, lemon and grapefruit.

Yuzu is a member of the citrus family and contains more vitamin C, calcium, and potassium than lemons.

Naturally caffeine free.

Recommendation:

If serving this iced, consider using an extra 1 1/2 teaspoon of tea for every 6 – 8 ounces of water to provide more flavor. Melting ice will dilute the blend. Or consider cold steeping this blend. To cold steep, put the appropriate amount of tea and water into a pitcher and let steep in the refrigerator for about 1 1/2 hours. Remove the tea leaves and voila, your tea is cold and ready to drink.

I tried Zesty Yuzu Lemon both hot and cold. I’m a big fan of citrus teas. The citrus really came thru in the hot tea, I definitely noted the lime. That was a nice treat, I find lime to be uncommon in teas. I thought the flavors melded together in the iced tea, a great combination. Would definitely recommend cold steeping if you’re going to drink it iced.
