Mini Pu-Erh Tuo Cha

These organic Mini Pu-Erh Tuo Chas are a great way to get a rich earthy flavor cuppa without having to break into a full Pu-Erh cake. The Tuo Cha comes wrapped just like it's sister tea, the Pu-Erh cakes. I am a big fan of the earthiness Shou (cooked) Pu-Erh has to offer. In addition, Pu-Erh, a true fermented tea, provides digestive health benefits created from the natural probiotics on this process. Just unwrap the cake and drop it in your infuser. There is something special almost like a mini pampering session when it comes to unwrapping, preparing and drinking the Tuo Cha. This cuppa is a little lighter in robustness and earthiness than our Yunnan Shou Pu-Erh 357gram cake. These are great to share with friends. A dark russet cuppa deep in earthy flavor with a smooth finish, characteristic of Shou (cooked or ripe) Pu-Erh teas. The leaves were oxidized fully before they were compressed. This organic Pu-Erh Mini Tuo Cha is from Menghai, from a village named Mannong Manmai, which also refers to one of the province’s many minorities. The tea was made in the fall of 2017, making it very good value tea.

Menghai is a well known Pu-Erh producing region in Yunnan. Compressed Pu-Erh teas go through a special step before being stored to age, and thereby acquire a deeper flavor. This step is the injection of a short small blast of steam into the oxidized leaves, and then these are immediately pressed into small molds. The added moisture promotes the natural transformation, very gradually and slowly, of the tea as it ages, resulting in a round tasting, mellow cup.

This size of the mini tuo cha will steep about a 12 to 16oz.  pot and is great for resteeping. You will likely see a blooming of the tea from infusion to infusion. If using a Gaiwan (bowl with lid) or a Yixing teapot (small clay pot), the flavor development of the Mini Tuo Cha from infusion to infusion will be more evident, an experience that is central to enjoying Pu-Erh tea. After unwrapping the little bowl shaped tea, pour hot water to rinse and to start the leaves loosen up, and this water can be discarded quickly. Then, pour water brought to a boil and let steep for 5 minutes.

Western Infusion:
(1 1/2 tsp (6 gr) to 6-8 oz water)
5 minutes 208 - 212°F

Number of Western Infusions: 2

Eastern Infusion:
(1 1/2 tsp (6 gr) to 3 oz water)
10 secs @ 212℉, add 10 seconds to each infusion.

Number of Eastern Infusions: 6+
