Pettiagalla
TeaCha's Notes:
This Ceylon black tea is perfect for the late afternoon cuppa. With the aroma of a woodland forest and its' subtly sweet malty flavor, you'll want to pull out a great mystery novel to pair it with. Not too complex but smooth to keep you focused on your mystery but richer than a Darjeeling which pairs better with a romance novel.
Price range: $2.00 through $46.99
This tea comes the Dimbula area in the Balangoda District. With a rich red color, this tea has been a top-seller for years for its rich aroma and mild flavor. I’m excited to add it to my teas. It should be part of every Ceylon assortment, with its dark, long and wiry leaves. The infusion has a spicy and light, malty character and can be served with a dash of cream. A good quality tea at a favorable price.
Recommendation:
If serving this tea iced, consider using an extra 1 1/2 teaspoon of tea for every 6 – 8 ounces of water to provide more flavor. Melting ice will dilute the blend. You can also cold steep to maximize the flavor by filling a pitcher with the appropriate tepid water. Add the suggested amount of tea leaves either in a tea bag or an infuser and put the pitcher into the refrigerator for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Taste the tea and if it’s to your liking, remove the tea leaves and serve.
