Rooibos, also referred to as South African Redbush, is a caffeine-free African herb, Aspalathus linearis (not tea which is Camellia sinensis). An excellent thirst quencher and nourishing and high in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and natural electrolytes. Research shows that electrolytes regulate nerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure, and help rebuild damaged tissue. There are two types of rooibos, red and green. Red is oxidized, much like the oxidization process of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) used to make black tea. This creates a roasty taste with a finishing note of tobacco. Green does not have the roasty flavor and has a more “spring like” refreshing flavor. A tasty and healthy substitute for sugary sodas, juices and energy drinks.
