Silver Needle

A soft mild white tea with gentle sweet floral notes. Silver Needle tea consists of only the buds of the tea plant and are harvested each spring. The buds are withered indoors then dried. After sorting and inspection the process is completed. White tea is the least processed and handled of all teas. If you look closely at the dry bud photo, you can see the silver feathery down/hair that comes from a very early/young shoot of the tea plant. It’s plucked before the down unfurls into a leaf. As with all white teas and more importantly because it’s the bud of the tea plant, this tea has a higher caffeine content.

This Silver Needle is great both hot and iced. If you want to serve this iced, consider using the cold steep option which enhances the natural flavor. To cold steep, instead of heating the water, place the dry tea buds in a cup or pitcher using the appropriate water and tea ratio and place it in the refrigerator for 1.5 hours. Then remove the buds and you have a delicious cold tea. Served hot, typically white tea is steeped around 176°F but in this case 195°F is recommended.
