Sunday School Punch

TeaCha's Notes:
Strawberry, peach and lime conjures up memories of the lime sherbet punch that moms used to prepare for Sunday School. The moment you smell the aroma your memories will be instantly evoked. This is a naturally caffeine-free rooibos that is fabulous for the summer. It's also a great way to get your electrolytes replaced during the hot weather. I like this served iced and hot. Iced you will taste more of the vibrant fruit and refreshing lime.

This rooibos is bursting with fruity flavors of strawberry, peach and lime. Rooibos, also known as South African Redbush, is a caffeine-free African herb, Aspalathus linearis (not tea which is Camellia sinensis). An excellent thirst quencher and nourishing. High in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and natural electrolytes. Research shows that electrolytes regulate nerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure, and help rebuild damaged tissue. Rooibos is commonly referred to red rooibos which has a roasted flavor with a slight tobacco finishing note. Much like the tea plant is oxidized to create black tea, red rooibos is also oxidized creating the roasty flavor.

If serving this tea iced, consider using an extra 1 1/2 teaspoon of tea for every 6 – 8 ounces of water to provide more flavor. Melting ice will dilute the blend. You can also cold steep to maximize the flavor by filling a pitcher with the appropriate tepid water. Add the suggested amount of tea leaves either in a tea bag or an infuser and put the pitcher into the refrigerator for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Taste the tea and if it’s to your liking, remove the tea leaves and serve.
